There's just been a lack of interesting things to talk about as of late.
However, I did get in trouble yesterday because I jokingly called my friend Kyree a redneck.
This was literally the conversation:
Me: Kyree, I've been meaning to make fun of you for your redneck Nascar jacket, but I keep forgetting.
Kyree: It's in style! What's redneck about it?
Me: Rednecks like Nascar, goofy.
(mind you, we were both laughing, and Kyree knew I was just messing with her)
Mrs. Newsom: Don't say that, Breonna.
Me: -pause in which I genuinely tried to think of what I had said- Don't say what?
Mrs. Newsom: Redneck. That's offensive.
Sigh.
My teacher hates me. Or not just me, she hates all of us. It's just that I am a notorious teacher's pet, so the feeling of anyone in authority not basking in the glow of my good kid-ness (jokes) is new to me.
I literally had girls from class coming up to me, asking how that was considered offensive. Your guess is as good as mine, guys.

Friday shenanigans
So Friday is without a doubt my favorite day of the week.
Not only is it the day I get to go home for the weekend and see all the people I miss dearly all week, but on Fridays, we also get to take a break from our normal class routines and work on each other all day.
So basically every week, someone else does my hair for me and then I go home looking nice. What's not to love?
I gave my friend Amber new red highlights. This is what that looked like.

before
posing with twenty foils in your head makes you look slightly ridiculous.
just sayin' ;)
after
more noticeable in person, but you can still see the reddish/purple tint in there
oh, and nice face, dude
I also got my nails re-done. I got them done last Saturday as a Valentine's gift to myself, and by Monday, they were already starting to lift. I was not happy. So by Friday, they'd all come off, and it was time for new ones. I love having the nail techs around.
Love them! I'm such a girl.
I put a waterfall braid in my friend Claudia's hair after she got a keratin treatment. I'm head waterfall-er in our class. I've taught some of the others how to do it, but they haven't quite gotten the hang of it yet, so everyone always comes to me. I'm totally okay with it, though, because it's super easy, and I love doing it.
her hair is gorgeous. jealous doesn't even begin.
We convinced Mr. Craft to do Catee's make up, which was hilarious. He actually didn't do half bad, much to our surprise, but it was still fun to watch.
very carefully selecting the right eyeshadow shade.
he put a lot of thought into it.
Then I went home and had an unintentional (but thoroughly enjoyable) Tina Fey movie night with Rachel and Page. We watched Mean Girls and Date night, two of mine and Rachel's faves that Page had never seen. After we finished the movies, we were flipping through and caught an episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air and almost had a heart attack when Page said she'd never seen it either! Yes, she does live under a rock haha. So of course we made her watch her first episode. I think she liked it, but at this point she was nearly asleep, so there's no telling how much of it she really remembers.
I went home and finally crawled into bed around 12:30, which is super late for me. I'm not happy if I'm up past 10:30, at the latest. This is one wild and crazy teen right here.

be my valentine?
So I am generally just not a big fan of Valentine's Day at all.
I, like any other cynical woman, think it's a crap holiday thought up by Hallmark to make money.
I thought that maybe this year since I do kind of have a guy in my life (long story) that I might finally be able to play on the "I'm not alone on Valentine's Day!" team, but alas, things don't work out that easily.
So with no plans at all, I started the day off in a bit of a funk that was only deepened as my classmates and teachers got a myriad of gifts, while all I got was a heart-shaped sucker from the cafeteria ladies.

I was more grateful for it than I sound. Or I was until it shattered and I only got to eat the slim fragment that remained on the stick. Many broken heart jokes were made, mostly by me. I'm so witty I don't know what to do with myself.
Then a girl got a bouquet of flowers from her mom, and so I decided to tell my mom about it and make her feel like the clearly terrible mother she is for not thinking to do the same for me. (totally kidding, btdub. my mom's the best. and if you don't believe me, just keep reading.)
We convinced our teacher to basically let us do whatever we wanted and work on each other, despite the fact that we usually are only allowed to do so on Fridays. Some of us had dates to get ready for, after all! ...well. Not me, personally. But still. So my best school friend Amber and I traded pedicures and then I supervised as Mr. Craft (the 61 year old man in our class. Yeah, you read that right.) shampooed and rolled Amber's hair.
As I was leaving, I noticed that I had a text from my mom asking me where I was. In the process of my answering her, she calls me, all flustered, and says, "Where are you?!" I told her that I'd just left and asked what her problem was, and she says, "Well, I had flowers delivered to the school for you, but when they got there, they told them you'd already left. So I ended up just canceling the order." Yeah. I almost got flowers and then didn't. And my poor momma almost freaked from the drama of it all. Sad, right? (Update: I asked my teachers today if anyone had come with flowers for me, and they said no one ever did. So either there was a considerable mix up, or someone's lying, we're not really sure which. In any case, it turned out to be a good thing my mom canceled the order.)
I ended up going home for the night, which is a rare luxury for me because my school's too far away from my hometown for me to just run home every time I want to. However, it was Valentine's Day, and I figured I deserved some fun. My parents and I had dinner together at our town's beloved Mexican restaurant, and then I went to a basketball game at my high school.
I didn't actually get to see a lot of the game, however, because I helped my friends Rachel and Page (who I actually went to the game to see) man the cupcake table, proceeds from which benefited the Autism Center of Tupelo in honor of Jasper, the autistic son of a couple from our church who are also teachers at the high school. Aside from it being for a good cause, Quess and Anita are pretty much two of our favorite people in the world. They're hilarious and amazing and graciously open up their home for us to hang out every week, as Anita is also over our church's youth bible drills. So I was more than willing to do whatever to help them out.
Delicious and for a good cause? Yes, please.
Anita is an amazing baker and made these bad boys herself. Did I mention she's the best?
They've also sold these throughout the week during school, and as of last night, they'd made nearly a thousand dollars! And the week's not even over yet, so there's no telling how much money will end up being raised. I, personally, think Jasper's cuteness has a lot to do with it.
I mean, how could you not give money to whatever he wanted you to?
Adorbz to the max.
Being the sentimental goob that I am, I had to take the opportunity to snag a "It's (insert holiday here), we have to take a best friends picture!" picture.
aaaand this was the result. she doesn't hate me, I swear. she's just not very fond of sentimental photography.
that's better.
So all in all, suck levels of this year's V-Day were actually pretty low. I didn't spend the evening with the man of my dreams, but I did get to spend it with my family and best friends, doing something for others instead of myself. Can't ask for much more than that.

a little intro
Okay, so I know that I am significantly tardy to the blogging about my cosmetology school experiences party (about six months behind, to be specific), but I am determined to actually force myself into the blogosphere and document the remaining five months properly.
But first, I thought I'd go ahead and answer the question I get most often from folks when I talk about what I do.
Why did you decide to do this?
Thought I'd go ahead and get the most complicated one out of the way first. When I was in seventh grade, we had to do career reports every six weeks on certain occupations for my career discovery class. After a hairdresser came to visit our class (and tell us which side our part should be on, which in hindsight I find slightly strange...), I decided to do mine that go'round on cosmetologists. It was through my thorough research (and yes, I did thoroughly research things back in the day. I didn't say I was nerdy in the blog description for nothing) on the profession that I decided it was what I wanted to do when I got old.
However, in the following years, I convinced myself that I was far too intelligent to limit myself to such an easy career path. I had to be a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer or something that was actually worthwhile for such smarty pants'es as I.
Fast forward five years and you'll find me smack dab in the middle of my senior year and yet another panic attack centered around the fact that I have no idea what I want to do after high school. Once I realized that I didn't actually like journalism enough to do it for a living like I'd planned during my junior year, I didn't have a clue what I was going to do.
Enter a lot of stress and a lot of prayer, and I finally came back to the same dream that little seventh grade Bre had: to be a hairstylist.
Now you might think that since I absolutely felt that this is the path God was leading me on, everyone else was totally supportive, right?
Wrong.
I've actually never had to work harder in my life to convince those around me that I knew what I was doing.
But eventually people came around I was off to Northwest to enroll in the cosmetology program.
...where, as I've said, I've been for the past six months. Yeeeah, sorry 'bout that.
But there's nothing like a new year to bring in a fresh start! Except it's February, so I'm behind on that too. Crap. I suck at this.
Here's to being better in the future!
